Palestinian prisoners continue to protest Israeli restrictions

The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have continued to stage protest steps, for the 21st consecutive day, to pressure the Israeli prison service (IPS) to backtrack on several restrictions it decided to impose on them in recent months.

According to Asra Media Office, the prisoners closed on Friday the sections of all Israeli jails as part of protest steps approved recently by the Palestinian Captive Movement.

The protest steps could escalate into an open-ended mass hunger strike if the jailers persisted in their measures against the prisoners, according to the Captive Movement.

The Captive Movement recently decided to disband all its regulatory committees representing the prisoners after the IPS reneged on understandings reached following the Gilboa prison break in September 2021.

Later, the prisoners decided to refuse to spend their daily outdoor time in prison yards after jailers installed walk-through metal detectors at the entrances to the sections of the jails.

In a related context, About 500 Palestinian prisoners held without trial or charge in Israeli jails have been staging a boycott of Israeli courts for the 57th consecutive day to demand an end to the policy of administrative detention.

According to Asra Media office, the administrative detainees have been staging this protest step under the slogan “Our decision is freedom.”

The administrative detainees also refuse to meet with Shin Bet interrogators as another step in protest at their detention. Palestinian prisoners continue to protest Israeli restrictions
